A quick striped mitt for the shoulder seasons using one set of Straw’s Farm Island Sheep mini skeins, or 55 yards each of whatever fingering weight odds and ends are waiting in your stash. The thumb is worked as a large buttonhole; a tutorial is available on my Tutorials page.

Gauge: 26 st and 40 rows per 4 inches stockinette on larger needle.

Needles: I used double pointed US 1s for the ribbing and US 2.5 (3mm) for main section. I consider myself to be a fairly tight knitter. Gauge is very forgiving on these: all that matters is that you like the resulting fabric. I’ve included instruction for two sizes. My example is knit in the larger size. If you like you fabric but worry that the mitts will be enormous, go with the smaller size.
