Straw's Farm Island Sheep, Newcastle, Maine
(actually raised on an island in Penobscott Bay, but the farmer who tends to them is in Newcastle).
These yarns are all three ply, and all spun semi-worsted to true worsted, making them hardwearing and perfect for gloves, socks, armwarmers, and etc.
Like all my dyed yarn, I used only plant based dyes (organic when possible) and a few assists to achieve bright, light fast colors. If you are unfamiliar with the quirks of yarns dyed with natural indigo, please see my About Indigo page before placing your purchase.
Gauge: 9 to 11 st/in, needles size 0-3
Length: approx 110 yds

Worsted-spun 3-Ply fingering weight from the island raised sheep of Straw's Farm in Newcastle, Maine. I love this yarn. Smooth, with just a little bit of bounce, it would be perfect for socks, or Sanquhar gloves, or a whole sweater (I may do all three). This yarn is pleasure to dye and a pleasure to knit with.
Suggested Needle: US sizes 0-3
Length: approx 110 yards
Dye(s): Madder root, Lac

The lightest blue (third from left in the group photo). Dyed as a solid, but because of the magic of the dye pot, still full of tonal variation.

*****Please do not use this option unless we’ve already corresponded via email*****
Sometimes I’m out of a color that you love, and the new dyelot, though lovely, is really a new color in and of itself, or sometimes you would love a gradient dip that I don’t currently produce; in any case, please use this option once the your new yarn is ready to head out in the mail.
Please don’t pay for yarn before I’ve let you know it’s ready to ship.
